A European President Elected By The People: Unification Or Disruption – OpEd

By

There is no common European defence possible without the popular election of those who govern Europe

Accustomed to having a nuclear umbrella under which joyfull divide themselves in order to be unified from the outside, European nations will have to discover that they live at a level of well-being that has long benefited from this protective system.

The Atlantic alliance, defended, reviled, exalted, condemned but in fact a military structure always without alternatives as long as America was Russia’s enemy, has revealed itself for what it has always been, an American slogan to fight the evil empire (USSR).

NATO, a slogan that could have been called LAHAR (long American hand anti-Russia) has always been misunderstood as an inextinguishable partnership of power. Here we have 5-6 thousand American nuclear weapons that protect us, whoever touches us is lost. We can develop, art, tourism, machines, agriculture and social benefits, even a common currency, be rich and happy, and above all safe, because mother America is here to protect us if someone thinks of hurting us. Europe discovered peace. Never existed in fifteen hundred years after the fall of Roman Empire 60 years of continous internal peace. But that peace was not internally protected.

The great clossal misunderstanding into which the 27 young people who live happily under that American Nuclear umbrella have fallen is not having understood that NATO (read better LAHAR) did not protect Europe, but America.

NATO forever. Taken for granted? But absolutely not. Who ensures that Europe is ALWAYS of vital interest to America? In addition to hindering Russia, what is the American structural advantage? European leaders have distractedly dealt with these issues, misunderstanding the contingency of NATO (better LAHAR) as a solid, immutable reality – The only exception being De Gaulle, who as a good general considers all friends possible enemies, and all enemies possible allies. He armed France of nuclear weapons not so much against Russia but for strange that can be thought against America. Therefore he went to Moscow.

But if America is not menaced by Russia, NATO has no sense to exist. Europe discovers itself uncovered. America, is a matter of fact, invents it enemies. It is such a consolidated process that Reagan was able to invade Grenada, an island with approximately 344 square kilometers (132 square miles) with a population of around 112,000 people that put America in such a dangerous situation that the name of the operation with spectacular lack of humourism was called “Urgent Fury”. Fortunately, the CIA discovered the plans. The warmonger Grenada, which aimed to acquire Canada under the motto from the Caribbean to Greenland, was thinking of invading the peaceful Americas corridor as Hitler did with Belgium to capture France in order to unify the North.. And Reagan to put out the fire instead of a local fire department, he landed the marines.

Well, if Trump discovers that Russia is not an enemy  Europe  discovers that has no defenses. It has an exceptional economy but lacks protection. And now the interpreter of the most disastrous and ridiculous anti-Russia campaign, the President of EU discovers that we must arm ourselves. She wants fight Russia. And she shoots figures like peanuts. 800 billion euros. Who wants to chip in?

Arm ourselves with what? Missiles for what distance? Ships to circulate in which sea? Satellite systems or spaceships?

Dear President, i we have always been sub-contractors to the American military system, what do we invent now? And with whose money?

Moreover that security is a collective fact is by no means a given principle among the 27. It is a painful and safe prediction. There will always be minorities in every state who aim at popular dissatisfaction to catch a blind and subversive electorate. For some time now, popular democracy has been in the hands of those who complain, not those who build. And the emergence of leaders voted for by those who complain has now become the structural malaise of democracies. A road that leads straight to disruption.

The only way to avoid disruption is to start a real process of unification. The President of the Eurpean community must be elected by the Europeans. It is not an impossible dream. No European security is possible without a President elected by Europeans. With a process similar to the much reviled (by some, I am not among those) system of the American Elecoral College, the only one in my opinion that safeguards national entities.

Without a European President elected by the people – indirectly through the electoral college – European military protection is a dream without a future. Disruption is at hand.
