Afghanistan’s Blatant Complicity: UN Report Shows TTP’s Lifeline And Pakistan’s Raw Deal – OpEd

By

Right, so the United Nations Security Council’s latest report? It’s a proper eye-opener, and it doesn’t paint a pretty picture. It basically lays out, in black and white, that Pakistan’s nightmare with this resurgence of terrorism is directly down to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

And – here’s the kicker – the TTP aren’t just floating about on their own; they’re being actively propped up by the Afghan Taliban. The report’s dead clear on this, no room for “ifs” or “buts”: Afghanistan’s acting as a safe haven, a supplier, and a bloody facilitator for a group that’s causing chaos and carnage next door. And poor old Pakistan? They’re getting the sharp end of the stick, plain and simple, as spelled out in the UN’s own report.

The report basically blows the whole “deniability” thing out of the water. It shows the TTP’s operations inside Afghanistan aren’t just a bit of an oversight; they’re practically a state-sponsored enterprise, or near enough as makes no difference. This backing’s laid bare, shockingly so, with evidence of wads of cash and logistical support – allegedly to the tune of $43,000 a month, according to the UN and reports we’ve seen. That level of support? It makes the Afghan Taliban’s role way more than just turning a blind eye. It’s active complicity. Innocent Pakistanis are the ones racking up the casualties, targets in their own homes, while those responsible are being looked after, funded, and, well, tolerated just over the border in Afghanistan.

And that grim number – over 600 terrorist attacks in Pakistan, all linked back to the TTP in 2024? That’s not just a statistic; it’s a relentless battering of the country. Its countless lives snuffed out, families torn apart, and whole communities living in constant fear. Every single attack is a flashing neon sign showing just how exposed Pakistan is.

This UN report makes a mockery of the Afghan Taliban’s supposed assurances about controlling their territory, ‘specially when it comes to cross-border violence. Those claims? Utterly disingenuous, frankly, given the evidence of sustained support. It’s a dangerous level of hypocrisy, and you have to face the plain truth, revealed at a level and authority we all heed: the Afghan actions actively bolster cross border violence. It shows, plain and simple, to anyone, what’s gone on. It screams, the UN evidence, Afghanistan, at its ruling body. The evidence points, and all logic points, that the government, the authorities ostensibly responsible for, are acting, enabling. They who claim control for their security are showing themselves chief sponsors of threat across border.

It calls out for some international response, doesn’t it? Someone’s got to shout about it, do something, about Afghanistan’s role, about Afghanistan’s responsibility for terrorism against Pakistan. Because it’s, according to detail that came about from a United Nations inquiry, with established and common understanding, Pakistan being wholly and entirely an undeserved target of tragedy and harm.

The world needs to wake up and smell the coffee, and see Afghanistan’s, two faced to Pakistan, actions. A base from whence TTP, emboldened groups of terror, and all terror acts and thoughts, and actions; Pakistan, as established with evidence, entirely wronged, victim, innocents to tragic effect and great count of casualty and, ultimately, to utter disgust that such action happen in proximity, Neighbour, to Afghanistan. It, must, and all accounts tell, bear answer.
